Crowdfunding is a way for couples to fund their wedding in place of gifts. Since the launch of GoFundMe in May of 2010, campaigns in its “Weddings & Honeymoons” category have raised over $1.7M, with a 228 percent increase in donation volume between 2013 and 2014. Many couples wonder if this is proper wedding etiquette to ask of guests. It is not a good idea to place a crowdfunding site or honeymoon registry into a wedding invitation. It would be okay to include gift registry options on a wedding website for the couple, although it should not be the only option given. Many couples are looking at different options since they do not need any gifts for their home. There are some costs involved with crowdfunding sites that range from 4 to 9 percent of the total amount raised plus credit card processing fees which average 3 percent. Honeymoon registries don’t usually have any fees. See a list of websites below that wedding couples can use.
