I got interested in Periscope at the Engage! 15 conference this past June in Mexico. Periscope was purchased by Twitter in March 2015.  Over 10 million people have downloaded the Periscope app. I won’t explain what Periscope is because I think Amanda Oleander has a better explanation.  Amanda shared her definition of Periscope during my interview with her (and other Periscope experts) in this week’s #WeddingMarket Chat.  Amanda says “Periscope is like Facetiming with the world, anyone can join and “virtually teleport” into your reality.” Amanda Oleander for those that don’t know her is considered the first Periscope star. She has grown to 400K in 4 months and has almost 39 million hearts.  Some of you might be wondering what are hearts?  Well as my #WeddingMarket Chat member Judene McCalla from @sytinvitations would say “it’s the equivalent of ‘likes’ on Facebook or double tapping on Instagram.”  Amanda shared her friend’s wedding recently on Periscope for her family to see in Spain. The wedding scopes had over 30,000 views.

Kim Garst explained Periscope this way, “Periscope is a phone APP that allows you to “GO LIVE” anytime, anywhere. You can have your own broadcasting station via your phone.”

Most of the weddings on Periscope are recorded by wedding guests, wedding party, and wedding officiants. One wedding was on a boat in the middle of the ocean.  I was shocked to see a service that was scoped with over 10 couples getting married at once. I have witnessed everything from brides and grooms singing at their ceremony, to a groom performing standup comedy at a wedding reception. One officiant @will_basham did a selfie with the couple and all their wedding guests in the middle of the ceremony. Officiant @sammylu gave us a tour of the Phillies dugout before his wedding ceremony at home plate.  A bride even shared her bridal gown shopping experience with her mom…all of these wonderful wedding experiences were shared live using the Periscope app.

Some wedding professionals are sharing unique parts of their craft on the wedding day or they are actually sharing parts of their client’s event on their company Periscope account. @shanemwagner shared his singing right up at the altar. It was fantastic to see and hear his performance. @FloraFetish shared their wedding reception floral arrangements before the guests arrived! @eugenekamphoto is a photographer from Hawaii. He shares unique wedding locations and fun moments at weddings. @ToddANichols is a photographer from Idaho who shares wedding day scopes throughout the day from amazing locations.  He shares edited photos as well as ‘live’ photos.  If you haven’t seen the cakes from @SweetArtCakeCo they are to die for! @cr8cakes shared a dessert bar photo shoot. @Stevenvance is a One-Of-A-Kind Violinist and DJ from Pittsburgh. The day I saw his scope he shared scenes from a wedding venue that he was working from before the reception started. I just loved how he did it. @MarkTLive does wedding announcements every Sunday morning. He is absolutely hilarious! I am finding that the largest number of Periscopes that are coming from wedding professionals cover training.

You can find us on Periscope at @WeddingMarket. We featured interviews with wedding planner Angela Proffitt the star of TLC’s Extreme I Dos, Heidi Elnora star of TLC’s Bride By Design, Karley Kiker author of Hitched In A Hurry and Gigi McDowell the inspiring event planner on Job Or No Job on ABC Family. We shared great wedding destinations such as Hilton Head Island and shared breaking news with The Westin Hilton Head Resort & Spa plans for a glass enclosed Oceanfront Pavilion coming 2017. We shared Nolichuckey Bluffs Wedding Chapel in Greeneville, Tennessee that was inspired after Southern California’s Wayfarers Chapel that was created by Lloyd Wright, son of the pioneering American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Our favorite scope was sharing Heidi Elnora sketching a bridal gown.
